Moxie’s Victoria is located on the corner of Yates Street and Vancouver Street, in the neighbourhood of Harris Green, known as the gateway to downtown Victoria. Just shy of a few blocks from Victoria’s fashionable Lower Johnson Street, Moxie’s is just minutes away from local tourism destinations and the Upper Harbour. This family-owned franchise restaurant is unique and unlike any other Moxies.
The Property
The restaurant has been a fun vessel for owner Lindsey and his wife to crawl into many people’s lives with good food, drinks, and lots of fun. However, after 8 years of ownership, the restaurant space had really been worn and torn. Lindsey believed it was finally time for a refresh. As a heritage building, the structural components have been constructed really well. Lindsey worked with their designer Sarah Baxter to accentuate the key historic features such as the brick pillars. The fresh new look exudes a modern and vibrant Mediterranean feel. With beautiful high ceilings and plenty of natural light, this updated design pays tribute to the history and character of our building while creating something fresh and exciting.
Restaurant Renovation
Houston Electric was contracted by Geoff Purdon of Northstar General Contracting to complete the lighting program. The intention of the lighting package was to remove the old Mediterranean look of the restaurant and upgrade it with modern lights and warm tones to elevate the look of the space. Three key lighting features were:
1) Installation of lights to accentuate a brick pillar wall. These lights shine up and down on the brick pillar wall, allowing the pillars to stand out boldly at night.
2) “Star Wars Jeti” sword light replacing an old Mediterranean chandelier. This creates a new, cool, hip, and modern atmosphere.
3) Addition of a Mediterranean olive tree. The light fixture is a subtle yet perfect addition to the room. When the room gets dark, the light shines through the tree and branches and reflects onto the ceiling, lighting up the whole space.
Over the years, Houston Electric and Northstar has established a strong partnership to complete projects such as the Cera, E:Ne, and Nuba.
